Does my money order expire?
Good news - MoneyGram money orders do not expire. However, money orders that remain uncashed after a year may be subject to a monthly service charge that will reduce the value of the money order. The amount of the monthly service charge can vary and can be found in the 'service charge' section on the back of your money order. Please do not attempt to cash your money order after 1 year or it will be returned unpaid. To request a refund on the remaining funds see "How does the replacement process work."
Can I send a money order to a country outside of Canada?
For peace of mind, we recommend that you check with the person or company prior to sending the money order to verify their financial institution's cashing and/or deposit policies. Some depository financial institutions may hold the funds for the money order until it has cashed. There may also be a difference in the value of the money order if the financial institution exchanges the CAD dollars for the local currency.
Why do I need to provide my email?
To streamline the refund process, we will email you the reference number you use to collect your refund at a MoneyGram location. We can also email you status updates about your request and collect additional information or clarification for processing.
Why do I need to provide my birthdate?
The safety of your money is important to us. To prevent fraud and keep your money safe, MoneyGram requires you to provide your date of birth. It's important for us to verify that you are who you say you are, to help reduce the risk of becoming a victim of a scam or fraud.
Where can I purchase a money order?
We have hundreds of locations in Canada that sell money orders. To find a location that is convenient to you, go to 'Find a Location' on our website or look for locations displaying MoneyGram money order signs.
