A: Receiver Registration Number (RRN) is a 10-character alphanumeric identifier that enables MoneyGram to send funds directly to your pre-registered receiver. This is only necessary in certain agents and for services that are sent to a bank account, a credit/debit card, mobile wallet or home delivery. For Receivers in China, currently RRN only direct to ICBC accounts.
Q: How do I get a Receiver Registration Number (RRN)?
A: Go to www.MoneyGram.com/accountregistration and select your "Receiver Country" and "Receive Option", click "Register Now" and complete the requested "Requestor and Receiver" information. Alternatively, please call and ask to register for the required service, be it bank account deposit, card account deposit, mobile wallet or home delivery. A Customer Service Representative will provide you with an RRN which you may reuse in the future to send money without registering again, which will save you time in the future.
Q: Who can register for an RRN?
A: Registration for an RRN can be completed by either the Sender or the Receiver.
Q: Why do I need an RRN?
A: Registration and receipt of an RRN is required in some locations in order to perform a money transfer to bank accounts, cards, mobile wallet or home delivery.
Q: If I want to send to three different receivers, does each receiver have to be registered? Will the Sender have three different RRNs?
Q: Yes. Each receiver or different bank account number requires their own RRN.
Q: Can multiple Senders send to the same RRN?
A: Yes. The RRN is tied to the receiver account.
Q: Is it possible to change an RRN?
A: The sender will need to contact MoneyGram to edit an RRN. Depending on what change needs to be made, a new RRN might have to be created.
Q: When a Sender sends money to the same person multiple times, does the Sender have to register each time?
A: No. For one type of currency, a receiver's account need only be registered once and can receive multiple transactions. If a receiver needs to receive USD, AUD, GBP, Euro for one ICBC account, then Four RRNs need to be registered for each currency.
Q: Is my RRN private?
A: The RRN itself is not private data of a receiver. Most of the time it is a 10-character alphanumeric code. However, when a receiver chooses to have money transferred to a mobile phone, the RRN is the receiver's mobile/cell phone number. The RRN is tied directly to where the money is transferred. An RRN allows for a safer and more discreet money transfer as the receiver may choose to not communicate to the sender any account information by only providing the sender with their registered RRN.
Q: Can one RRN support multiple currencies receive?
A: One RRN only supports one receive currency, if a receiver will receiver multiple currencies in China(USD, EUR, GBP, AUD) then related RRNs are required.
Q: Why should one use the receiver's own mobile phone number or the number under the receiver's name for registration?
A: Firstly, the registered mobile number will be the number which used for SAFE declaration, receiver will accept and be responsible for the SAFE declaration sent from this number.
Secondly, account bank will send the receipt notice to the registered mobile number, the receiver need to pay attention to message sent from the account bank in time and sent
reply as per instruction before 3:30pm Beijing time on the very day, otherwise the transaction will be rejected.
Q: ICBC any bank notes or debit card can all receive the money?
A: ICBC Money Link Debit Card account number (19 digit, Current Deposit Account) - Currently only this can receive Direct Send.
Q: Can receiver use other people's bank accounts to receive money?
A: No. Receiver name(on RRN and sender's send form) must be the same as the bank account holder's name.
Q: Can I input Chinese text/Characters into the online register fields?
A: Please input only English text.
Q: Can I input a landline phone number for receiver, if receiver has no mobile number?
A: No.
Q: Receiver mobile phone number is only limited to Chinese telecoms? Can I input a mobile phone of other telecoms?
A: Only China Mobile, China Unicom, China Telecom mobile phone number is accepted, any other telecom's mobile can not receive SMS information
Q: What if I forgot my RRN?
A: You may re-register another RRN.
Or you may call MoneyGram's call center to retrieve the old one which you forgot.
Q: How long can the money be deposited to ICBC account?
A: Usually it takes 1-2 business days**, but this will not be processed during non-work days. (Such as weekends and holidays)
Q: What if a sender inputs the wrong RRN?
A: Sender should go to the send location to refund.
